Showing the Experience, Not Just the Service
When you run a business, there are websites to build, services to refine and social media accounts to populate.
And somewhere in the middle of all that comes the realisation that people need to be able to see who you are and what you do before they can decide whether they want to work with you.
When Camilla first got in touch, she was preparing to launch the next chapter of OCLO Collective, a business that combines pre-loved fashion, personal colour analysis and styling advice. Her work helps people build wardrobes that feel more aligned, more sustainable and more like themselves. But like many service-based businesses, what she really offers goes far beyond the practical service itself.
She helps people feel more confident, more comfortable in their own skin and more like themselves. The challenge was finding a way to communicate that experience through photographs.
She didn’t need hundreds of polished corporate headshots. Instead, she wanted photographs that would help tell the story of her service. Images that felt warm, approachable and genuinely reflective of the experience her clients have when they work with her.
People don’t simply buy services. They buy confidence, reassurance and the feeling that they’re in the right hands.
Before we picked up the camera, Camilla and I talked about what OCLO Collective really stands for. And it isn’t clothes, colours or style rules.
It’s about confidence. It’s about helping people see themselves differently, and helping them reconnect with who they are and how they want to show up in the world, in the colours and style that suits them best.
But how do you show that in photographs?
When most people think about brand photography, they picture a headshot of someone standing in front of a wall smiling at the camera.
Those images have their place, but a business like OCLO Collective needs more than that.
People don’t choose Camilla because of what she sells. They choose her because of how she makes them feel.
The aim of this shoot wasn’t simply to show what happens during a colour consultation. It was to capture the confidence, connection and transformation that sit behind it.
Throughout the shoot, we created a mixture of portraits, working images, environmental photographs and storytelling details that give Camilla flexibility across her website, social media, marketing materials and future content.
Because the strongest brand galleries aren’t built around one perfect image, but around a collection of photographs that work together to tell a complete story.
One of my favourite moments during any client-facing shoot is when my client gets into the zone and starts doing what they do best.
It’s almost imperceptible, but they stop thinking about being photographed, drop their shoulders, forget where their hands are and become completely focused on the person in front of them.
That’s exactly what happened during Camilla’s session.
As she worked with her client, talking through colours, style and confidence, she stopped thinking about the camera entirely and became immersed in the experience she was creating.
That’s when the images started to feel truly authentic and believable, and began to show her warmth, expertise and calm confidence, because those are the qualities her clients value most when they work with her.
One of the biggest mistakes business owners make is assuming they only need a handful of photographs.
In reality, your business is constantly asking for images:
A thoughtful brand shoot creates a collection of images that will support your business for months.
By photographing a variety of interactions, details, portraits and working moments, we created images that tell different parts of Camilla’s story depending on where they are used.
Some photographs communicate expertise, while others communicate personality, and others still help future clients imagine themselves having the same experience.
Together, they tell a much bigger story than any single image ever could.
A few days after the shoot, Camilla sent me this message:
“Maria has a professional, calm and lovely manner which puts one at ease straight away. She is very easy-going, flexible and willing to help, and is really creative, and thinks on her feet, making lovely images from whatever is presented to her. I’m really pleased with the shots she did for me and my business.”
Messages like this always mean a lot to me because they reflect something that’s just as important as the photographs themselves.
Most people don’t spend their days in front of a camera.
My job isn’t simply to create beautiful images. It’s to create an environment where people feel comfortable enough to be themselves, so the photographs feel natural, believable and genuinely reflective of who they are.
OCLO Collective combines pre-loved fashion, personal colour analysis and styling advice to help people build wardrobes that feel more aligned, more sustainable and more authentically them.

Whether you’re launching something new, refreshing an established brand or simply tired of relying on the same handful of photographs from years ago, brand photography can help bridge the gap between what you do and how people experience you online.
Long before someone books a discovery call, sends an enquiry or buys from you, they’re already forming an impression through your images.
The question is:
Are your images helping people understand what it’s really like to work with you?
If you’re relying on the same handful of photographs you’ve been using for years, or struggling to show people what it’s actually like to work with you, a thoughtful brand shoot can help.
Together we’ll create a library of natural, authentic images that reflect who you are, what you do and why your clients choose you.
No awkward posing. No forcing a version of yourself that doesn’t feel right.
Just photographs that help people connect with the person behind the business.
